59 Parks "Olympic National Park"

Olympic national park is a amazingly beautiful area in northern Washington state. This print captures one of the more iconic views a short walk north of Rialto Beach. This landmark is cleverly dubbed 'Hole in the Wall', which is basically is a whole in a rock 'wall'. The long narrow sand beaches offer great places to walk, with plenty of shade just out of reach of the waves. The somber mood of this print, in all deep blues, captures what this area probably looks like most of the year, cloudy and cold.
Summer 2018 I backpacked the coasted stretch of the Olympics. The hike was beautiful, technical and brutal. The beauty was the constant contrast between sloping fine sand beaches, the hard rock cliffs and the lush greenery. Technical because we have to climb over steep saddles, chart paths through large boulders and constantly be aware of what the tides schedule was. Brutal because the beaches were flat, well slopped, but the rest was an almost constant up/down moving through rock scree after boulder scree. So while we didn't gain any real elevation like mountain hikes, we did experience a ton of 'micro' altitude.
